Happy Tortoise Tuesday! 🐢 The Galápagos Islands are home to 14 species of Giant Tortoises that range in size and shape, but all variations can be classed into two main shell types: domed and saddle-back (see Slide 9 for a comparison). They arrived from South America 2-3 million years ago and have evolved in order to adapt to the different island habitats. These reptiles are basically living dinosaurs and have an average lifespan of 100-150 years in the wild- So crazy! I captured these in mid-February on my TrovaTrip to the Galápagos with an amazing group of people who joined me for this bucket list adventure full of wildlife encounters.
