In Rick Rubin’s book, The Creative Act: A Way of Being he touches on so many important parts of the creative process. I struggle to remember that “If we tune in to the idea of making things and sharing them without being attached to the outcome, the work is more likely to arrive in its truest form” This is a bed that I originally made for our showroom, meaning… I was the client. I got to patch together vintage white and natural canvas scraps that I had collected over time and select boards that would have been rejected in our production QC process and I played with rounding the corners. It’s not always possible to make objects only for ourselves but I am inspired to refine my approach and communicate with more clarity why making furniture or art objects from a perspective of celebrating the character instead of apologizing for it with result in objects with the most authenticity. #rickrubin #design #thoughts #stephenkenn #madeinlosangeles #bed
