Through the covid lockdown months I became increasingly aware of the rise in digital retreats. An opportunity for people stuck in their homes to experience expansive states in the virtual company of like minded folk from all over the world. As much as our devices contribute to our anxieties and distracted states of mind, through convenience there’s also been an increase in them “aiding” spiritual practices through apps for guided meditations, classes in mindfulness techniques and viewing satsangs / wisdom talks from gurus of a variety of traditions. Part of me as a meditation teacher thinks that anything that gets more people meditating or learning how to regulate their nervous system is a great thing. But the other part of me has some concerns about developing a practice through our devices.
