If I’ve learned anything working with magazines over the last 25 odd years it’s that editors love a best of list. As a lettering artist, being presented with a variation of the same brief over and over again, there’s always the temptation to do more of the same. It’s a bit of a trap though as it can lock you in to being the go to for a particular style or technique which is fine in the short term but ultimately is a one way ticket to a limited folio and irrelevance when the given fad wave subsides. For me In the interests of longevity in this game and remaining inspired enough to be excited to go to work every day, learning new approaches and versatility will always be king in my opinion. #designthoughts #foodforthought #lettering #versatility #careerlongevity #editoriallettering
