When the creator stops being the creator, this happens:
Just like you, the creator becomes the viewer. The interpretation of a painting can change and that meaning as a viewer becomes just as relevant if not more, than the creator’s.
For instance, ‘Spirit Totem’. I can tell you the inspiration, attach some meaning to it, however upon reflection and with time, as the painting revels more of itself within the layers, I’ve realized this may just be a story of when I was in Mexico City and took a trip down south to delve deep with a Shaman.
I decided to name the painting ‘Spirit Totem’. This was a transformative experience that just may have seeped onto the canvas but as a viewer I am still curious as to what the painting will tell me.
I guess that’s the thing about art.
It is personal.
