Training Concept: Force Absorption The ability to absorb force is crucial in any high performing athlete. If athletes can learn to absorb force, they then learn how to transfer it efficiently to produce the maximum amount of outwards production. Being able to do this allows athletes to cut quicker, jump higher and run faster. Not only that, as volleyball players we jump a lot. That means we land a lot and have forceful impacts over and over again. In a controlled state (like this exercise) we can strengthen the ankle and knee joints to absorve this force properly which will decrease our risk of injury over time. Landing on the court time and time again is not a controlled state which increases athletes risk of landing poorly causing unwanted damage to the joints (especially the knees). These box drops into the isolated lunge position exposing the ankle joints by landing on the toes also increases balance and total body control.
