For the past atleast 2.5 years, I have been asked by a lot of people mostly those who don’t even know me properly to make my child “tough”. And I know a lot of them come from a good place and mean well. But it is a casual remark passed on whenever he cries in a gathering or is clingy to me or is not OK entertaining strangers with hugs and kisses. And I have had enough of it. First of all he is 3 YEARS OLD, how do you expect him to control his emotions? And why should he? 🧡If being “tough” means he has to pick a fight or fight back with others, not cry when he is upset because you tried to kiss him without his permission even when is saying NO (Hello! Consent?), not run to look for his mother (which is his safe place), be a bully, hit others, then I don’t want him to be tough. And if him crying and screaming in a public place is making you uncomfortable then you need to toughen up.
