#TakeActionTuesday: Title IX cases are emerging nationwide as women athletes step up to demand their rights to equitable athletic participation opportunities.  Last week, Marshall University dropped their plans to cut the women’s swimming and diving team after a Title IX lawsuit was filed by student athletes. According to the suit, this move would have widened the sports participation gap on campus between women and men, citing an independent audit that found in the last three academic years the University “shortchanged women by 210, 250, and 160 participation opportunities.” Title IX doesn’t just promise equity – it empowers athletes to take action when that equity is denied. On campuses across the country, athletes are stepping up to hold institutions accountable and protect opportunities for current and future generations.
