It was 27 degrees when I talked to myself on this walk so forgive the breathiness. I think most people care more than it looks like. A lot of research backs this up. Humans actually are wired to help each other, but that wiring is conditional. We help when we feel safe. When we trust the system we’re in. When it feels like our effort will matter and won’t be taken advantage of. When people are in survival mode, contribution drops. Not because they’re selfish, because scarcity narrows your world. Your brain goes, just get through today. What’s interesting is that it works in the other direction too. When communities and businesses are ✨clear ✨about how they contribute, it creates stability. It builds trust. It gives people a reason to lift their eyes up from survival and inspires them back into participation.
