Too many young lives are being lost in our city.
In recent months we have seen a young person stabbed to death in St Ann’s, another shot dead in the Meadows, and now a 15-year-old seriously injured after a stabbing at a school.
These aren’t just headlines.
These are families shattered, communities shaken, and young people feeling less safe on our streets.
We are also seeing concerning trends inciting tensions and violence online that could spill into real life. These are warning signs we can’t ignore.
Youth violence must be treated as a public health issue.
Enforcement matters, but enforcement alone won’t fix this.
If we’re serious about change, we need to tackle the root causes, trauma, exclusion from school, lack of opportunity, poor mental health, and environments where young people feel like they’ve got no way forward.
This is bigger than any one organisation.
We need a collective effort, politicians, schools, charities, businesses and communities all stepping up together.
