Last week I was invited by Eugene Ankomah to the launch of The Reclaim Project which he created with young people from Salmon Youth Centre, an immersive art installation confronting the devastating reality of knife crime
On arrivalyoung people dressed in forensic-style PPE hand you flowers before guiding you along an “incident trail” — a haunting journey through the aftermath of violence that too many communities know all too well
The sounds of sirens, grieving parents and the chaos of the streets build as the installation unfolds, ending with a funeral scene that forces us to face the real human cost
What makes this project so powerful is that it’s led by the voices of young people, families, survivors and the communities directly affected
This isn’t about shock value
It’s about truth, and reclaiming the narrative.
Art like this makes you stop. Reflect. And remember that behind every statistic is a life
