Deeply honored to be featured in themagger with an article by curator and art historian Bengüsu Demirci bengusudemirciarthist who offers a sensitive and insightful reading of the place of Nüshu within my artistic practice. What moved me most in her writing is how she traces a powerful connection between three layers of time: the historical reality of women who created Nüshu as a space of expression despite exclusion, my own childhood experience of encountering Chinese characters first as images before language, and the contemporary message that runs through my work today with hiromitaproject Demirci’s article also places Nüshu within a broader reflection on gender, access, and structural exclusion thus reminding us that systems of expression are never neutral.
