‘Don’t Matter’ Akon (2006) “Don’t Matter” is a reggae fusion and R&B single by Akon (Aliaune Thiam) from his second studio album Konvicted, which was released on November 14, 2006. The song was released as the album’s third single on January 18, 2007. It was written by Akon and Anthony “Tony Love” Lawson, and Akon is credited as the producer. Because the chorus draws partly from Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1979 song “Zimbabwe,” Bob Marley also received a songwriting credit on “Don’t Matter.” In April 2007, “Don’t Matter” became Akon’s second No. 1 single in the United States. The official music video was directed by Gil Green and follows Akon on a date while a disapproving older man is shown reacting to media coverage about Akon.
