Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month: Bruce Lee Bruce Lee, born on November 27, 1940 in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong, was an actor, martial artist, filmmaker and philosopher whose influence lives on. He studied Wing Chun under Yip Man and was a child actor in his youth. Bruce Lee appeared in roughly 20 films in Hong Kong before moving to the United States. When he was 18, he moved to Seattle, taught gung fu, and went on to open gung fu schools in Seattle, Oakland, and Los Angeles. He developed a martial arts style called Jeet Kune Do in 1967. Jeet Kune Do (Way of the Intercepting Fist) emphasized simplicity, directness, and freedom. He appeared in "The Green Hornet," "The Big Boss," "Fist of Fury," "The Way of the Dragon," "Game of Death," "Enter the Dragon" and more.
