Dogs in shelters… OK, I’m not sure if this is a rant or a story.
Roger & Michelle invited us to volunteer for dog walking. I didn’t bring Debbie on the first day due to her compassionate heart and safety for my wife.
Upon arriving at the shelter, pride filled me, seeing around 30 volunteers cars parked.
Michelle explained the walking process as we entered, amidst the overwhelming sound of excited dogs.
The facility is adequate but far from a suitable long-term environment for a dog’s mental well-being.
The emotions I felt to the realities as Michelle spoke were similar to those at a funeral. From pride in volunteers humanity, I shifted to despair, resentment, and anger towards the dogs’ previous owners, whose circumstances I couldn’t fully know. I understand circumstances such as health or financial issues. However, abandoning a dog is inexcusable and cowardly.
The team here does an incredible job, with dogs being rehoused across the EU & UK. The shelter’s efforts are commendable...
