Three layers made up the final comp. The Liquid Launch (which made plenty of mess!), the relatively straightforward Hand Catch (in-camera video overlay would have been nice to help line it up but got by no problem), and then of course a background plate to make life easier in post. . There was a bit of trial and error with the Liquid Launch. I originally used a remote custom launcher (great for making ice, lime, and other solid stuff fly!) but it lacked the power required to make a real splash with liquid. So, took the white acrylic top plate off the launcher and gave it a go by hand. Happy I did. . The comp was completed in Fusion. The main takeaway being I was glad I’d thrown so much light at this setup! Having two lights on the yellow backdrop made life a whole lot easier in post where an evenly lit background was vital for blending the masks with the plate. The foreground key Evoke 1200W meant I had ample power to get the most out of the 1000fps offered by the Chronos 2.1 too -...
