✨ New Territories at GDM ✨
New Territories is my painting for my solo show at GDM. It’s where my parents are indigenous; the Tang and Cheung clans. I am 29th generation. During the 6 day war, my clans resisted the British against invasion and occupation. They lost, and received concessions to placate resistance and renamed the area New Territories. This is the main city section of my canvas.
At the bottom left, I depict the British Nemesis gunboat used to conduct the 2nd Opium war that established the British as the first narco state, enforcing unfair treaties and the loss of Hong Kong into a British colony after with the French spent 3 days burning and looting the Summer Palace.
In the midsection, I paint a distorted scroll painting of one of the views of the Summer Palace, the last document to exist before its Anglo-Franco destruction. The scroll was stolen by the French and resides in a museum. I distort one of its images into an aurora-like form, the visual forms of the earth’s atm...
