I was drawn to 3D printed porcelain powder process as it hold’s the entire arc of creation in one breath: from the ancient mud of Nüwa’s hands to the silicon ghost of tomorrow. In Jingdezhen, clay has been coaxed into translucency for a thousand years, I feed that same primordial earth, now ground into an ultra-fine powder into a machine that builds mountains layer by microscopic layer. The porcelain powder binds into low polygon peaks that echo the scholar rocks my ancestors once placed on their desks to contemplate the universe. Yet these peaks are not sculpted by nature’s rivers of time but from code into geometries; simulations of natures. This act feels deeply philosophical to me: the oldest material myth, clay as the substance of life, now mediated through the newest myth of perfect replication.
