I don’t know if anyone else can relate…
When I was a kid, my older brother beat the shit out of me. We fought. We handled it. Nobody ran to mom every five minutes.
And honestly? It made me tougher.
Now I’ve got two boys in my house. Three years apart. The younger one wants to do everything with the older one. The older one wants space.
They bicker. They argue. They test each other constantly.
Part of me wants to say, “Figure it out. Handle it.”
Because that’s how boys learn.
But when you’re raising kids in a blended family, it’s not that simple. There are other parents. Other emotions. Other dynamics.
So we try to teach both things at the same time:
Stand up for yourself.
Don’t be a bully.
Don’t be soft.
But don’t be reckless either.
I want them strong.
I want them confident.
And more than anything, I want them to grow up having each other’s back.
Raising boys isn’t about stopping every fight.
It’s about teaching them how to handle conflict the right way.
