This is what real tourism at scale looks like.
Thousands of people landing at once during peak season.
One of the most visited cities on Earth.
This is Suvarnabhumi Airport on January 10.
From touchdown → immigration → bags → exit
I was out in about 1 hour.
And here’s the key thing people miss:
There’s a massive difference between
- waiting 1 hour while the line keeps moving
vs
- waiting 1 hour with a few hundred people and nothing is moving.
Thailand processes close to 100,000 international tourists per day on average — and over 120,000 per day during peak season.
Now imagine if they didn’t invest in:
• digital arrival forms
• smart workflows
• proper staffing
• crowd & flow management
Tourism numbers would collapse overnight.
People would simply choose somewhere else.
This is why systems matter.
And this is why I always say:
there is a lot for us to learn from how Asian countries design for scale.
