I spent months building to-do apps, weather apps, and half-finished clones.
None of them got me a single interview.
The project that finally changed everything was a cancer awareness platform we built from scratch. Emergency services. Appointment booking. Recovery stories. A real backend. A real database. A mobile app.
Interviewers didn’t ask us generic questions. They leaned forward and said “tell me more about this.”
That’s the difference between a tutorial project and a real project.
A tutorial project proves you can follow instructions.
A real project proves you can think.
Here’s how to choose a real project:
→ Find 10 job descriptions for roles you want
→ Identify what problem those companies actually solve
→ Build a smaller version of that problem
Fintech company? Build a personal finance dashboard.
Healthtech? Build an appointment booking system.
SaaS? Build a project management tool with real user flows.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It has to be real.
