Long before Brit and I were engaged or married… long before we even had kids… I used to tell her something very clearly: You will absolutely and of course be at the births of our future children. But my mom MUST be there. Not because she’s just my mom. Because she’ll one day become my childbirth education teacher, my doula, and the steady presence beside me in every labor I’ve experienced. She knows how I breathe through contractions. She knows when to remind me to relax my shoulders. She knows when to say nothing at all. Birth is one of the most vulnerable, powerful moments of a person’s life. And for me, having my mom there has always felt like the most natural kind of strength. Now as we prepare to welcome our twins, the plan is exactly the same as it’s always been. My mom by my side. And Brit on the other.
