We kissed for the first time on a beach in Tel Aviv. Had we met anywhere else in the Middle East…we might not have made it. And 18 years later, we’re still here, still in love, and still grateful. Israel remains the only country in the Middle East where LGBTQ+ people can live openly with legal protections. Same-sex marriages performed abroad are recognized. LGBTQ+ individuals can adopt children, access IVF and surrogacy services, serve openly in the military, and are protected under anti-discrimination laws in employment, healthcare, and education. To this day, Israel continues to be a rare place in the region (and world) where queer families like ours are seen, valued, and protected. Visibility matters. Pride matters.
