The donor conception conversation is loud right now. And for good reason. Many adults conceived via donor sperm are discovering their origins through 23andMe or Ancestry years—sometimes decades—later. They feel betrayed. They’re angry. They want change.
And they deserve to be heard.
But what’s missing from the conversation is perspective.
Most of these stories come from hetero couples with male factor infertility who never planned to tell their children. It was a different time. There was shame. There were secrets. The trauma that some DCC are navigating today is real—but it often stems from the lie, not the biology.
Today, over 50% of families using donor sperm are LGBTQIA+. There is no hiding. No shame. Our children grow up knowing they are wanted, loved, and celebrated from the very beginning. And with their conception story shared from a place of truth in their early years.
We do need family limits. We do need better education. We do need transparency.
But we also need nuanc...
