SWU – 1940 💙 For more than twenty years, First Wesleyan Methodist Church met off campus on Gaines Street, requiring students to make quite a trek to attend services. It wasn’t until 1937 that the property was sold, and ground was broken on Wesleyan Drive in 1939 for a new church. In 1940, First Wesleyan Methodist Church held its first service in the new building on a cold, snowy January day. Today, First Wesleyan Methodist Church is part of the Nicholson-Mitchell Ministry Center and home to the Division of Religion. The chapel portion of the building, now known as Alive Chapel, hosts fine arts recitals, special chapel services, and more. #SWU1906to2026 #SWU120Years #SWUhomecoming2026 #SWUlife #120YearsAtSWU #SWUAlumni
