Dozens of Cincinnati police, armed with riot shields, nonlethal shotguns and pepper spray, split a crowd in half at The Banks and declared it “closed for the night.” At around 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, an Enquirer reporter on scene witnessed dozens of police officers lined up at both ends of The Banks. Officers advanced after Downtown Capt. David Schofield made the call to break up the crowd. The crowds had gathered after the Cincinnati Reds lost to the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day of the baseball season. Officers encountered resistance as the crowd split, with some officers using wrist ties to detain people. Officers began sounding out over a megaphone at 8:25 p.m., “The Banks is now closed.” Interim CPD Chief Adam Hennie and several commanders were on the scene, along with dozens of officers and Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies.
