#PeopleofJSU: "I’m back at Jackson State to finish what I started in 1962. When I first stepped onto campus sixty-four years ago, it was still Jackson College. I came because my sister lived in Jackson, and I was living with my aunt on East Beach Street. I met the man who would become my husband, we started a family, and my focus shifted to raising my two children and building a career. I dedicated over 31 years to the records and attendance department at Jackson Public Schools before retiring in 2017. However, my love for learning never dimmed. In the spring of 2024, I realized I had unfinished business. My daughter—a fellow Tiger—didn’t hesitate and picked up the phone that same day to get my enrollment started. Coming back as a junior has been a whirlwind, but a rewarding one. My original credits from the '60s transferred, so I hit the ground running. Today, I’m proud to maintain a 3.72 GPA and to be a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. People assume that...
