Ignite Coach and UofS Master’s student Cam Skinner recently completed testing for his study, partnering with the Huskie Soccer teams and Huskie Strength. Cam assessed each athlete on a variety of strength, speed, and change of direction tests, including the 20m sprint, traditional and modified 505 COD tests, vertical jump, and unilateral isometric squat strength. The study aims to determine whether correlations exist between static, unilateral isometric measures of strength and dynamic performance variables such as linear and change of direction speed. By testing both the men’s and women’s teams, the research also seeks to understand how these measures and relationships differ between sexes, and how those differences may inform future training strategies. A key focus of the study is the COD Deficit, a formula that isolates the true time required to change direction by subtracting a matched-distance sprint time from the 505 test time (e.g., Modified 505 time - 10m sprint time). Since ...
