Mars retrograde in Cancer season of debilitation, invites us into the challenging yet sacred work of rewriting our internal pathways—our neurological and emotional responses. Just as water seeks the path of least resistance, so too do our thoughts and reactions follow well-worn grooves in our minds. This season asks us to dig into the earth of our being, to create new swales for our emotions and intentions to flow. In the physical world, I’ve found myself literally digging swales—carving pathways in the soil for water to move purposefully, cultivating and nourishing the roots of the trees I hope to see thrive. It’s backbreaking, patient work, but it mirrors the inner process of breaking old patterns and building new ones. Mars in Cancer reminds us: growth requires effort.
