This year cracked me open in the best and hardest ways.
I used my shaky voice to speak up about the things that matter most to me: raising awareness for FTD and dementia, pushing toward a cure, advocating for women’s brain health, and standing up for caregivers who are too often unsupported and unseen. Publishing my book, The Unexpected Journey, was a big part of that. It was scary, vulnerable, and healing all at once. But what surprised me most was the connection that followed with advocates, caregivers, and people who simply wanted to feel less alone. In a world that can feel so divided and disconnected, I experienced hope and this community reminded me just how powerful it is when we come together. Yes, there’s been criticism and judgment, but I’ve learned to welcome it because it shows us exactly where the cracks are, where more education, awareness and compassion are needed. And the connection I’ve found with you? It far outweighs the noise from people who have an opinion instead ...
