Common sled push mistakes and how to fix them
The sled push is one of the biggest separators in HYROX. It exposes posture, power, and pacing. Most athletes make the same mistakes and all of them are fixable with simple biomechanical adjustments.
1. Using the hand grip instead of the arm method
When you push with your hands high on the poles, your center of mass shifts backward. That reduces horizontal force and makes the sled feel heavier than it actually is.
Use the arm method instead. Bend your arms and drive your forearms into the poles. This puts your center of mass forward and increases ground force production which makes the sled move with less effort per step.
2. Landing your feet too close to the sled
If your feet strike under your hips or directly below the sled, you lose leverage. You want long marching steps with your feet landing behind you. This creates a forward lean and allows you to apply force horizontally rather than vertically. The further your feet land behind yo...
