This year was a big decision year for us.
Mehan is completing 3 years of Montessori and moving to Grade 1.
Like every other parent, I filled forms for the top schools near our locality and began the admission process.
By God’s grace, he cleared the entrance tests of three schools.
But during the principal interactions, I was honestly shocked.
The expectations from a Grade 1 child felt overwhelming — constant competition, comparisons, grades, and a heavy focus only on academics. Even co-curricular activities revolved around academics. And what broke my heart the most — children who couldn’t cope were simply asked to leave.
That’s when I knew… this wasn’t what I wanted for my child.
I want Mehan to enjoy his early school years with joy, curiosity, confidence, and happiness.
So I chose peace over pressure, comfort over comparison, and growth over the rat race.
Because end of the day what matters is Happy Child ❤️
Sometimes, choosing differently is choosing better.
