Compromised running is the skill that decides HYROX races.
HYROX is not about how fast you can run fresh.
It’s about how fast you can run after your heart rate is already elevated, your legs are loaded, and your breathing is disrupted.
That is compromised running.
Physiologically, this happens because stations spike heart rate, lactate, and oxygen demand. When you leave a station, your body is still clearing metabolites while you’re asking it to produce forward motion again. If your aerobic system is underdeveloped, pace drops immediately.
This is why many athletes look strong early and fall apart late. They trained speed. They trained strength. They did not train the transition between them.
Here’s how you actually train compromised running.
1. Run immediately after work
Short runs directly after sleds, carries, or ergs teach your body to stabilize breathing and mechanics under fatigue. Even 400 to 800 meters is enough if done consistently.
