Stop training to look like a bodybuilder if you want to race HYROX well
HYROX is not a physique competition.
No one cares how big your chest is when you are trying to push a sled and then run a fast kilometer immediately after.
Muscle size and muscle performance are not the same thing.
Hypertrophy training increases cross sectional muscle area, but it also increases body mass, oxygen cost, and fatigue during repeated efforts. That is a bad trade in a race where you run eight times and spend over an hour near threshold.
HYROX rewards strength that transfers.
Can you apply force efficiently.
Can you repeat it under fatigue.
Can you recover quickly and run fast again.
That means your lifting should support performance, not size.
Lift heavy enough to maintain strength.
Use lower to moderate reps.
Rest long enough to keep quality high.
Stop chasing pumps, burnouts, and max fatigue sessions.
The goal is to be strong and light, not big and slow.
Strong enough to dominate the sleds.
