Williamsburg’s waterfront has been fundamentally reshaped—by design. Over the last 20 years, former industrial sites have been transformed into a mixed-use neighborhood that prioritizes public space, long-term resilience, and community access. What was once closed-off shoreline is now home to new housing, reactivated historic buildings, and parks that connect directly to the East River. Infrastructure has been upgraded for flood mitigation and climate adaptation, while design standards have raised the bar for sustainability across the district.
