The structure expanded deep into the subterranean layers below it, also providing living space and communal areas to ‘socialise’. Its notable hexagonal shape is not purely aesthetic but rather a reference to the symbolism the form has in geology—incidentally, the hexagon has been the logo of the Union Geological Council for centuries. Aside from new trainee arrivals once a year, life on UMB606 was sedate.
