This applies to everything- religion, politics, social issues, even personal relationships. True understanding requires effort, curiosity, and empathy and compassion, but hate is often the shortcut people take when they feel threatened or uncomfortable. It reminds me of what Nelson Mandela said: "No one is born hating another person... they must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love."
