Did you know that thousands of Filipino soldiers fought bravely during the Korean War to help defend South Korea?
From 1950 to 1955, the Philippine Expeditionary Forces to Korea or PEFTOK stood side by side with Korean soldiers to protect freedom. Many Filipinos do not know this part of our history, but it is something we should be proud of.
I visited the war memorial in Goyang Special City and seeing it in person felt different. Reading the stories and remembering their sacrifice made me realize how deeply connected our two countries are.
And what makes it even more special? I was there behind the scenes as I-Witness documented this story. It is beautiful to see how Korea and the Philippines have been connected since the war.
