Discrepancies in the script: povo lido → povo livre lido = “read”; sounds odd for “a people is born.” livre = “free,” which fits the idea of a new, free people. fardo → fado fardo = “burden”; heavier, physical weight. fado = “fate/destiny,” which matches the poet’s line: Se o fado é meu, que seja meu até o fim (“If the fate is mine, let it be mine to the end”).
