ADHD guilt spirals are heavy, here are 3 things that help me when they hit 👇
This is one of the most common (and least talked about) parts of living with ADHD: chronic, disproportionate guilt. ❤️🩹
If you’ve grown up being misunderstood, labelled “lazy” or “not trying hard enough,” your nervous system may have learned to associate rest, boundaries, or inconsistency with danger rather than care. That’s conditioning + wiring not a character flaw.
Here’s 3 things that help me when the guilt hits:
1️⃣ Name it as a nervous system response: Remind yourself this kind of guilt is a symptom not truth and treat it as such. Acknowledge it, show it care and know it’ll pass. Say it out loud so your nervous system feels safe.
2️⃣ Soften the self-talk: Speak to yourself as you would a friend, role reverse and zoom out to give you a more objective perspective. If that fails, speak to an actual friend who you know will help you make sense of things.
