Are you a recovering people pleaser? 🙋🏼♀️❤️
You’re in good company 🫶🏼
For years, I said yes to my own detriment and used to spiral over what I perceived as letting people down. Most of the time… it wasn’t even a big deal, but it felt (and still does sometimes) disproportionately huge. 😰
Through therapy I learned people pleasing is a form of self-disrespect. That hit hard.
Because every time I ignored my own needs to keep someone else comfortable, I was teaching myself that I didn’t matter.
People with ADHD are also more likely to people-please because of rejection sensitivity and the need for external validation. For many of us it turns into self-abandonment more than kindness. 💚
Learning awareness of it is the starting point.
Learning to say no is learning to respect yourself. ❤️
