Over a hundred people have lost their lives and 40,000 suffered heatstroke in India this summer, according to government figures. However, doctors and activists say actual numbers can be far higher than this. If you look at the newspaper reports you will find dozens of deaths reported daily. Doctors are saying their wards are overwhelmed. Activists I spoke with in Delhi said they have calculated at least 400 deaths on the streets since March (watch our ground report video for details).
