The biggest lie in women’s health? That thin = healthy. 😳 I’m 49 with 20+ years of clinical nutrition practice, and I see this ALL the time: Women who look “fit” but are pre-diabetic. They did everything “right”, cardio, portion control, eating “healthy”. But they never ate enough to support their muscle mass. And now their glucose levels are dangerously high. You can be a size 4 and still have poor metabolic health. Some of these women ran marathons. Did triathlons. Looked amazing in photos. But they were under-muscled from years of undereating and over-exercising with endurance training that was breaking down their lean tissue. Without enough muscle mass, your body can’t regulate glucose properly. Muscle is your largest metabolic organ it’s responsible for up to 80% of insulin-stimulated glucose uptake.
