Each visit to this place churns my stomach--the nightmarish Kala Pani / Cellular jail prison in the Andamans. It stands as a mute spectator of decades of unbridled gruesome torture that thousands of Indian freedom fighters endured …no good food, potable water, basic facilities of toilets, defecating and urinating within your narrow 7x11 cells, hangings, electrocution, grinding oil all day in the blazing sun, no medical facilities, no pen/paper, human isolation & standing handcuffs punishment for weeks— the list is endless. That so many young men went mad or committed suicide is testimony to the fact that it was unbearable torture.
