One thing I’ve struggled with my entire life is being a perfectionist. I used to think it was a good thing.
But what I didn’t realise is that excellence and perfectionism aren’t the same thing. Excellence encourages progress whilst perfectionism is a hindrance- setting you up for unrealistic expectations and as a result holds us back from trying in the first place, even if we know what we need to do is so important.
It used to paralyse me so much that I couldn’t think properly or be present with my family. Whenever a patient, a friend or anyone that I tried helping didn’t get the result that they wanted from me I felt so disappointed in myself. Even if I had social proof that I’ve helped thousands of people already, it meant nothing because I didn’t hold a perfect track record. This made me afraid to fail, that at one point I stopped taking clients. A form of self sabotage.
That was until I read a book called Storybranding by donaldmiller - this whole time I felt like I was the hero...
