Letting go of the “good girl” persona.
Growing up I was the “good girl.” Compliant, quiet. Volunteered for everything. Started babysitting at 8 years old. Had too much responsibility placed on my little shoulders too soon.
That turned me into living a life of people pleasing. And let me tell you (but I’m sure you know this) people pleasing is soul sucking.
It took me until my 30s to set boundaries. I started with the people closest to me and most times I felt like a bitch…
I had to say NO I won’t give you money, NO I won’t babysit your kids, NO you can’t come over. No.
No.No.
Each NO got easier. A lot of healing took place and me saying NO helped remove a lot of codependency in our family.
Setting boundaries took years but it was worth it. And this is a reminder to you - you can be a good person, you can be a kind person and you can still say NO.
