Why Everyone’s Hating on HIIT (and Is It Justified?!) 👇
Because it’s National Stress Awareness Month, and as a qualified Integrative Health Practitioner, I need to explain why HIIT is suddenly under fire—and whether the backlash is actually valid. So let’s cut through the noise. NO NOTES.
1. First up, HIIT isn’t the problem. HIIT isn’t inherently “bad.” Neither is cortisol. In fact, cortisol is essential for life. It wakes us up in the morning, helps us respond to real stressors, and is actually anti-inflammatory in the correct doses (yes, really).
2. The problem is when cortisol becomes chronic and those temporary spikes become ‘always on’. Your adrenals? They were not built to run a cortisol-pumping marathon all day every day.
3. The downstream effects of chronic stress? Real, too. We’re biologically built to handle stress in short bursts —not constantly. Toxic stress = a dysregulated HPA axis that disrupts so many functions in your body - skin health, gut health, hormone health...
