We never expected a new family member so soon — but after hearing his story and how his entire family was deported leaving him stray for 3 days, we knew he belonged with us. The fear of deportation has carved deep wounds in our community; we’ve watched people wait decades, face sudden removals, and suffer in detention. Still, these neighbors are the hands and hearts that care for us every day — our nurses, cooks, babysitters, mail carriers — and we see the good they bring.
We don’t know exactly how his family was taken, but we see the loneliness it left behind. I hope they see this and know he’s safe and loved.
After he came into our home, I knew exactly why he was here. Not only does he balance the other dogs in our family so well, but he reminds me to appreciate what I have.
I expected to have a well bred puppy next but life has a way of giving you what you need.
