I’ve spent hundreds of days of my life in a hospital room and two things are clear. 1. They give the sickest patients the best view and 2. The best view is the most mentally relaxing and taxing at the same time. It’s peaceful to see such beautiful sunrises and sunsets over mountains or buildings but it’s also so hard to watch everyone driving and walking across the street, picking up a coffee or two, walking with their kids holding hands, or even someone reading on a park bench. All you crave is routine, family, friends, being able to carry some responsibility or value and having reliable health that allows you to live. There’s an African proverb “When death finds you, may it find you alive” encourages living a full and meaningful life, rather than simply existing. It’s a call to embrace life fully and not allow fear or stagnation to hold you back.
