I step out of the room. I nod to the nurse. I walk into the next patient’s care as if nothing just happened. Later, when it is quiet, it lands. In the car. In the call room. Sometimes alone in a corridor. I replay every detail. I ask if I missed something. I feel it in my mind and in my body. In my chest. In my stomach. The one thing I can do is cry. This is trauma and grief at work. We talk about resilience, yet what we need is trauma support and leadership. If you are in healthcare and feel emptied out or burnt out, you are not weak. You are human. I see you. We don't just get over it. We carry the ghosts but show up again. Because we care.
